Depends on the phone model. Some phones can be unlocked by you, others will need to be done my someone with the proper equipment..

Those are both GSM networks, if I recall correctly.
Shouldn't you just be able to switch out the SIM card from an active phone? I've done that before. |

No. T-Mobile lock their PAYG phones.
You have following options: #1 Phone T-Mobile and ask for the PAC code (cost will vary) #2 Take it to one of those market stalls, and pay £10-20 to get it unlocked #3 Search online to see if you can do it yourself. Goggle: Unlock Nokia 5300

Ah, well then that idea's out the window.
Agreed with Malice. If you can do it by yourself, it's on the internet. EDIT: From the little bit of research I've done, it's not possible to do it yourself. You have to ask your provider for a code.
